Database of Classical Bibliography
Ways to use the annual volumes of L'Anneé Philologique:
- browsing in the sections for A.Ph. rubrics (a classed arrangement)
- finding entries from the indices for geographic terms and ancient and modern authors
Additional features of the database:
- 16-year cumulation of all entries for these years
- eighteen rather than four indices
- indices include Thesaurus Linguae Graecae genres, geographic regions, centuries
- Boolean searching (AND, OR, NOT) for terms, and for result sets
- cross-referencing to A.Ph. entry numbers, and to words in any other indices
- searching of three Greek character sets as well as Roman alphabet (in Entry or Search Windows)
- printing and downloading of result sets
Display Windows, Ways to search the DCB:
- Entry Window (comes up automatically when you start the DCB) is a list of all the entries available in seventeen of the indices; use it:
- to find out what literature exists under a known heading (e.g. authors, titles)
- to learn about available headings (e.g rubrics, topics, genres)
- to go directly to the citations under these headings
- type headings found here in the Search Window; or copy them there with ctrl C; close Entry Window; then ctrl V
- in the corresponding index field in the Search Window
- to find out what literature exists under a known heading (e.g. authors, titles)
- Main Window (appears when you close the Entryor Search Windows) use toolbar or tools window to switch to other windows
- Search Window (switch to it from Main Window) is where you call up boxes to supply your own search strategies:
- copy terms from Entry Window to the corresponding index field
- type in keywords for Full Text index (supply truncation or WildCard: * for any number of characters, ? for a specific unknown character)
- search multiple fields simultaneously (AND between them is understood)
- supply Boolean operators between terms within a field
- limit TLG genre, geographic searches by century (NB: remember to remove it!)
- Execute Search, Save, and Show Results commands

Save Window (available only from Search Window): designate a filename (*.qrs extension) for a result set that hasn't yet been viewed
- Query Factory (available from Search, Save Windows):
combine sets previously saved as *.qrs files, using Boolean operators -
Results Window: (available from Entry and Search Windows and from Query Factory)
- display results of a set you have selected
- initiate cross-reference to an A.Ph. entry number or a word in any index
- print out individual records
- download search result sets in a variety of formats
