Criticism and Explication
For books dealing with a particular author, do a subject search by the author's name (last, first) and note headings that include "Criticism and Interpretation." For general criticism on the literature of the period, do a subject search by "English Literature -- Early Modern -- 1500-1700." Look for the headings that include "History and Criticism."
For journal articles you will want to use the MLA Bibliography, one of the EBSO databases. It is also available in paper back to 1926. ABELL, the Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature, is part of the LION database and can be searched separately. LIONoffers the full-text for a number of journals. Academic Search Premier indexes most of the Humanities Index titles and includes full-text for many articles.
