LIBR 1100 Introduction to Library Research

The Texas Tech University Library offers a one-hour credit course every semester during the academic year.

LIBR 1100, Introduction to Library Research, is designed to teach students lifelong, information literacy skills and how to do research in a university library.  Because information comes in many forms, including printed publications, resources on the Internet, microform, and audiovisual materials, library research can become overwhelming.  Students must know how to identify, find, and use resources that are most appropriate for their needs if they are going to be successful not only in courses, but throughout their lives.

Current students can access the course via WebCT.

Introduction to Library Research  (LIBR 1100) has four main objectives:

  • To present the arrangement and services of the Texas Tech University Libraries,
  • To provide an introduction to resources & search strategies,
  • To outline a transferable, systematic plan for critical evaluation and use of these resources in a variety of ways, and
  • To promote the effective use of information to accomplish specific tasks.

Classroom sections are offered several different times each semester.  To view this semester's offerings, please go to TechSIS and look under Library Research.

All sections (except Section 270, Distance) meet in the TTU Library Instruction Laboratory (Room 150).

Students also have the option of registering for the distance learning section that is taught via the Internet and has no on-campus class meetings.
