Texas State Documents
The Texas State Publications Depository Program was begun in 1963 and is “designed to collect and distribute systematically the publications of Texas state government and to promote their use by the citizens of Texas”. To this end, over 240,000 items are distributed annually to 48 libraries throughout Texas. There are two participating libraries in the Panhandle-Plains region: Texas Tech and the Cornette Library at West Texas A&M University in Canyon. You can search the online catalog lists holdings of the participating partner libraries in seven Texas state agencies.
Not everything printed by the state or a state agency is considered to be a publication worthy of the State Depository Program. By definition (per Government Code 441.101 of the Texas Statutes), a state publication: “is produced by the authority of or at the total or partial expense of a state agency or is required to be distributed under law by the agency; and is publicly distributed outside the agency by or for the agency; and does not include information the distribution of which is limited to: contractors with or grantees of the agency; persons within the agency or within other government agencies; or members of the public under a request made under the open records law, Chapter 552.” (Chapter 552 deals with Public Information).
