SciFinder Scholar Client Installation Instructions

SciFinder Scholar 2007 Client for Microsoft Windows 2000 (SP3 or higher), XP (SP1 or SP2), or Vista
  1. Download sfs2007.exe (~12.2MB self extracting executable). Note that you'll have to authenticate before you can download the file. Depending on the browser you are using, the user name will either be your eRaider or your domain\eRaider (e.g., "ttu\eraider"). Enter your eRaider password as the password. Once you've authenticated, save the file in a temporary downloads folder. Also Note that, if your browser gives you a "You are not authorized to view this page" message, you must close all browser windows and start the download process over in order to get the authentication dialog box back.
  2. Download site.prf. Also save this file in your temporary downloads folder.
  3. Before running the installer, close all Windows applications.
  4. Run sfs2007.exe to install the SciFinder Scholar software. You can do this by double clicking it in Windows Explorer (or My Computer), or choosing Run from your Start menu, typing in the full path to the file and clicking OK.
  5. Follow the system prompts to complete the installation.
  6. After the application has been installed, locate the site.prf file that you downloaded to your temporary downloads folder. Move the file into the folder where SciFinder Scholar is installed (e.g., "C:\SFSCHLR").
SciFinder Scholar 2007 Client for Mac OS X (10.3, 10.4, or 10.5)

A new version of SciFinder Scholar 2007 is available! According to the release announcement, "This new version allows you to use Mac OS X 10.5 in the native mode and eliminates the need for Apple's Rosetta software in order to run SciFinder Scholar on Intel-based machines."

For New SciFinder Scholar 2007 Users:

  1. Download sfs2007a.dmg to your desktop or to your download folder (~14.2MB). Note that you'll have to authenticate before you can download the file. Depending on the browser you are using, the user name will either be your eRaider or your domain\eRaider (e.g., "ttu\eraider"). Enter your eRaider password as the password. Also Note that, if your browser gives you a "You are not authorized to view this page" message, you must close all browser windows and start the download process over in order to get the authentication dialog box back.
  2. Also download site.prf.
  3. On some systems, Macintosh Disk Image Files (*.dmg) will automatically mount. If not, double click sfs2007a.dmg to mount the disk image. (Macintosh Disk Image Files behave like a CD_ROM: they open an icon on your desktop).
  4. Double click on the desktop SciFinder Scholar icon.
  5. Drag and drop the SciFinder Scholar 2007a Application Package (the application package on the white button) into your Applications folder.
  6. Right-click on the SciFinder Scholar.app icon in the Applications folder. Choose "Show Package Contents".
  7. In the resulting Finder window, drill down to Contents/MacOS
  8. Copy the site.prf file that you downloaded in step 2 into the Contents/MacOS folder.
  9. Double click the HardDrive/Applications/SciFinder Scholar icon to launch SciFinder Scholar.
  10. (Optional) Create an alias for your Desktop or Dock.

Updating SciFinder Scholar 2007:

  1. Follow steps 1-5, above.
  2. Drag SciFinder Scholar 2007 (the original release application package) into the Trash.
  3. Follow the rest of the steps (6-10) to complete the installation.
