Dean Dyal on National Library Board

Donald H. Dyal, Ph.D. | Dean of Libraries

Texas Tech University's dean of Libraries was confirmed in July as a member of the National Board of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (NMLSB).

The U.S. Senate confirmed Donald H. Dyal's presidential appointment to the advisory body, which helps guide general policy and practices of federal grant-making agency the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

He will serve in the position through Dec. 6, 2013.

“I think this appointment says something about the quality of the work we are doing at Texas Tech University libraries,” Dyal said. “The fact that we are on the radar of people in Washington D.C. is a feather in the cap of Texas Tech and of Lubbock.”

The NMLSB includes the director and deputy directors of the IMLS, plus twenty presidentially-appointed and Senate-confirmed members of the general public who have demonstrated expertise in, or commitment to, library or museum services. In addition to policy and practice advising, it helps in selecting recipients of the National Medals for Museum and Library Service.
