Electronic Databases For Interdisciplinary Research
General Databases
- WorldCat (FirstSearch)
WorldCat is a database of records cataloged by member libraries. The materials cataloged are from 1000 B.C. to the present and representing most formats, including books, computer programs, journals, films, manuscripts, maps musical scores, sound recordings, and videorecordings. Only a small number of records are found for journal articles or chapters from books. This database has over 52 million records representing over 400 languages and is updated daily.
- Dissertation Abstracts International (DAI - FirstSearch)
Dissertation Abstract International (DAI) covers dissertations and theses from institutions in the United States and Selectively from Canada, Great Britain, and Europe. Coverage is from 1861 to the present, with abstracts included in records since 1980. Theses abstracts were included in the records since 1988. DAI is updated monthly.
General Periodicals Indexes - Full-Text
- WilsonSelectPlus (FirstSearch)
WilsonSelectPlus is an index that provides citations with both abstracts and full-text of periodical articles. The database indexes 1600 US and international professional publications, academic journals, and trade magazines in the sciences, humanities, education and business. This database covers the years 1994 to the present and is updated weekly.
- Academic Search Complete (Ebsco)
Academic Search Complete is a multi-disciplinary database that provides full text for more than 5,300 periodicals including approximately 4,400 peer-reviewed journals. Additional indexing is provided for some monographs, reports, and conference proceedings. Coverage includes most academic fields; it is updated daily.
- OmniFile Fulltext Mega (WilsonWeb)
OmniFile Fulltext Mega is an index that provides the searching of several Wilson indexes at the same time with coverage of these fields: education, general science, humanities, social sciences, business, applied science, art, agriculture, library science, and the law. Indexing for over 3200 journals goes back to 1982 with abstracts and some fulltext beginning with 1994 issues. The database is updated daily.
Citation Indexes
- ISI Journal Citation Reports (ISI Web of Knowledge)

ISI Web of Science is a group of citation indexes offered through a comprehensive database called the Web of Knowledge. ISI Web of Science includes citations from overly 8,500 authoritative, high impact journals in Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, or Arts & Humanities Citation Index.
Social Science, Engineering, and Science Databases
- GPO (Government Printing Office - FirstSearch)
GPO is an index of all types of U.S. government documents, including Congressional reports, hearings, debates, and records; judiciary materials; and documents issued by executive departments (Defense, State, Labor, Office of the President, etc.). GPO coverage is from 1976 to the present and it is updated monthly.
- Social Science Abstracts (WilsonWeb OmniFile Fulltext)
Social Science Abstracts, the "Social Sciences" subject area database in Wilson Omnifile, provides citations for 550 English language journals published in the US and elsewhere. Subjects covered include anthropology, economics, geography, law, political science, psychology, and sociology. Citations are for articles published since 1983 and abstracts and some full text appear with the1994 records. Social Science Abstracts is updated monthly.
- Sociological Abstracts (Cambridge Scientific)
Sociological Abstracts provides citations and abstracts for articles in over 1800 serial publication published internationally as well as abstracts of books, book chapters, dissertations, and conference papers. Among the subjects included are economic development, environmental interactions, policy and planning, and rural and urban sociology. Citations are for materials published since 1963 with abstracts appearing in records added since 1973. The database is updated monthly.
- Development Case Studies (Urban Land Institute)
This database provides more than 300 detailed case studies of real estate development projects of various types, including commercial/industrial, residential, multi-use, parks, parking facilities, and public buildings. The case studies provide photographs and site plans, information on costs and rents, innovative features and strategies of the project, and an explanation of the entire development process. It covers projects from 1985 to the present. Thirty new case studies are added every year. TTU faculty, students, and staff must log in to view the full case studies. User ID: 11838. - Applied Science Abstracts (WilsonWeb)
Applied Science Abstracts is an index for 600 sources including journals, conference proceedings, meetings, etc. Subject coverage includes chemistry, computer technology, data processing, energy-related disciplines, engineering, mathematics, and physics. Citation coverage began with 1983 to the present and abstracts begin in 1994. Applied Science and Technology is updated monthly.
- Engineering Village 2 (Compendex)
Engineering Village 2 (Compendex) is a comprehensive bibliographic database of engineering research, including over seven million records and abstracts taken from over 5,000 engineering journals, conferences and technical reports. Subject coverage includes areas of engineering and applied science. Online coverage is from 1970 to the present. Compendex is updated weekly.
- Environmental Sciences and Pollution Mgmt (Cambridge Scientific)
Environmental Sciences and Pollution Mgmt is an online index to journal articles on environmental science and pollution management. Records include complete abstracts and bibliographic citations from 4,700 journals sources from 1994 to the present. It is updated monthly.
- GeoRef (Cambridge Scientific)
GeoRefS is an online database for materials in geology and earth sciences. Citations are for materials found in journal articles, books, maps, conference papers, and reports from more than 25,000 sources. GeoRefS is updated semi-monthly.
- Gender Studies Database (EBSCO)
Gender Studies Database comprises a number of gender, men's studies, and women's studies index files. Citations are for journal articles, books, conference papers, government reports, media, and web sites. Citations date from 1972 and earlier.
Medicine
- MEDLINE (Cambridge Scienctific Abstracts, Ebsco, FirstSearch)
MEDLINE is an online database created by the National Library of Medicine covering medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and the health care system. MEDLINE indexes and abstracts over 4,600 biomedical journals. Updates vary from daily to weekly dependent upon the vendor.
Business
- ABI Inform (ProQuest)
ABI Inform is a comprehensive online database that indexes over 1800 worldwide business periodicals with expanded international coverage. This database includes information on over 60,000 companies and executive profiles. ABI Inform includes abstracts, full-text, and images. Coverage is from 1971 to the present.
- Business Source Complete (Ebsco)
Business Source Complete is an extensive online database indexing scholarly business journals, monographs, reports, and case studies. Extensive full text is available. Subject Coverage includes nearly all subject areas related to business. Business Source Premier includes full-text articles from more than 300 of the top scholarly journals dating from 1922. This database is updated daily.
